There are 2 NSS units with 100 volunteers in each unit making a total of 200 volunteers for the college.
Objectives:
The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are:
- To understand the community in which they work.
- To understand themselves in relation to their community.
- To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving.
- To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
- To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
- To develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
- To gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
- To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
- To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.
- To practice national integration and social harmony.
Admission:
Students who wish to join NSS should apply to the Programme Officer in the College.
Activity:
NSS volunteers will have the following activities:
- A student enrolled as NSS volunteer will have to put in 120 hours for community work in a year for a period of 2 years.
- Each NSS volunteer who joins NSS will undergo an orientation in NSS programme for 20 hours out of 120 hours.
- They have to work on Sundays and evenings to complete this target service.
- One special camp in a year during vacation.
The N.S.S volunteers of the two units involve in the following regular activities every year.
- Cleaning of College campus at regular intervals.
- Vanam-Manam tree plantation programme in the college premises and the adopted villages.
- Observation and Celebration of days of International and National Importance like International Yoga Day, World Environment day, Independence day, Teachers Day, National Unity Day, NSS day, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanthi, World Aids Day, National Voters Day, National Youth Day, Republic Day etc.
- NSS orientation programme to the volunteers to get acquainted with the objectives, the motto, NSS symbol, NSS song and NSS activities.
- Participation in Janmabhoomi Manavooru Programme in the wards of Palamaner Municipality.
- Participation in Blood Donation Camp and Blood Grouping Programme.
- Participation in awareness programme on Road Safety Measures.
- Participation in cultural activities at University Level and State Level.
- Special Camp Certificates are issued to the volunteers who have been involved in the camp with Programme Coordinator's and Vice Chancellor's signatures.
- Bonafide N.S.S. Certificates are given to volunteers who have been involved in general regular N.S.S. for 2 Years
- For the volunteers who attend National Integration Camps, Inter State Camps are given University certificate by the organizers of the camp. These certificates are given priority and considered in P.G. admissions.
